Terms & Conditions

1. I hereby release and discharge the organiseres of the Kitesurfing Armada and their officers, directors, elected officials, employees, sponsors, sponsoring agencies, other participants, owners of the land used for Kitesurfing activities (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Released Parties”) from any and all liability, claims, demands or causes of action that I may hereafter have for injuries or damages arising out of my participation in the Kitesurfing Armada, including but not limited to, losses caused by the negligence of the Released Parties.

2. Participants must at least be of an intermediate kite standard, as described in the Event Overview. They must be able to self rescue at any point along the route.

3. Participants agree to pay a non refundable £40 registration fee to cover costs of the event, and in addition to that agree to fundraise a minimum of £100 for the charities partners nominated.

4. Participants must be 17 or over, or come accompanied by an adult also with the required kiting level.

5. Participants are responsible for ensuring they have suitable insurance for the event.

6. The organisers are not responsible for any injury, damage, loss to kit or person on the event – participants should manage their involvement in the event in the same way as on any normal kite session.

7. At the outset of the event, participants agree to set up where organisers direct on the beach, and to only begin kiting as signaled by organisers. This is the critical part of the event for safety and no free kiting will be allowed at Hayling Island. Once on the Downwinder, kiters will spread out and of course a more free style of kiting is allowed. Organisers recommend that no jumps will be allowed until after Selsey point.

8. The event finished in Pagham and participants agree to land and sign out at Pagham. The organisers and Released Parties are not responsible for any Kitesurfing activities unrelated to the specified downwinder event from Hayling Island to Pagham.

9. Participants understand that limitations due to the wind requirements mean the date for the event can only be confirmed on the Thursday before any weekend in September/ October where there is sufficient wind to run the event. The organisers will select the day utilising the best possible forecasts, but of course cannot guarantee wind on the day. In the event that the Downwinder fails as an event or cannot be completed because of wind, funds cannot be returned to individual donors – the festival without the downwinder event will take place on the last possible weekend and 50% of registration fee and all funds  raised will be brought forward to the next event.

11. Participants agree to ride in buddy groups of 3 kiters. Kiters MUST kite in this group and stay together for the whole downwinder.

12. Kiters must adhere to any other safety measures brought to the event by the the Kitesurfing Armada organisers and the safety panel.

13. Kiters must look out for themselves and the wellbeing of others at all times. Everyone must kite in a way that respects other participants and does not put them at risk.

14. Kiters are responsible for making kit choices, kite size etc on the day – and for ensuring the safety and safe working of their equipment. All kites must have a functioning effective leash system and buoyancy aid.

15. All participants must bring a waterproof pouch containing a mobile for emergencies and money to get them home in the event of self rescuing along the route.

16. Kitesurfing is an extreme sport. Participants are involved at their own risk. The organisers can accept no liability for any injury. Participants do understand and acknowledge that Kitesurfing activities have inherent dangers that no amount of care, caution, instruction or expertise can eliminate and expressly and voluntarily assume all risk of death or personal injury sustained while participating in the Kitesurfing Armada whether or not caused by the negligence of the Released Parties.

17. I further agree that I will not sue or make a claim against the Released Parties for damages or other losses sustained as a result of my participation in the Big Charity Downwinder.

18. The decisions of the organisers in all aspects of the event are final.
